Is Cassper Nyovest Owing The Mahotella Queens?
Cassper Nyovest has been accused of not paying the legendary group Mahotella Queens the royalties due them, as well asfailing to send condolences to them after it lost one of its members.
Cassper Nyovest had co-opted the all-lady group on the 2015 hit song “Malome,” and even invited the group to perform during his #FillUp campaign of 2018.
However, speaking at the funeral of Nobesuthu Mbadu, a member of the Mahotella Queens who passed away due to kidney failure, Veli Shabangu, a producer for the group, had accused Cassper Nyovest of disrespecting the group by not paying them their due respect.
Veli claimed the group is usually treated like royalty but the “Amademoni” chose to disrespect them. He expressed disappointment that Cassper Nyovest had not reached out to the group after Mbadu’s death.
He ultimately threatened to sue Cassper should the group not receive their dues for the “Malome” collaboration.
Cassper Nyovest is currently out of South Africa, and last we checked, he had not responded to the allegations.
